The much beloved President Hinckley

The much beloved prophet President Gordon B. Hinckley passed away tonight at around 7:00 p.m. mst. He was a man with an incredible amount of faith and courage. He led our church with love and strength. He will truly be missed as our prophet, seer, and revalator. He was such an amazing man, and I am lucky to have lived in a time when I would have his guidance and leadership in my life! He lived his life to the fullest, he was optimistic, full of energy (until his last few years at least). One thing that I will remember about him is how strongly he cared about the youth (which was of course was me during this time) and always referred to us as the future leaders of the Church, which always gave me courage and faith growing up during a difficult time as a teenager. Another thing I remember about him is his strong belief in "strengthening the family as a fundamental unit of society" as referred in the 1995 "Proclamation to the Family". (I was only 11 at the time this was given and it was given at the Relief Society Conference so I didn't get to hear it when he first gave this) and how he advised us to work together as a family unit and strengthen one another, and love and care for one another. When I was was in young women's my YW leaders gave us the opportunity and encouraged us to memorize the proclamation, and it it something that I've enjoyed referring back to time and time again. He is also well know for his strong opinions and guidance on the evils of pornography, and that we should "refrain from any type of pornography of any kind." I will always look to him as someone who has helped me increase my testimony in Christ as my Savior, and has strengthened my life as a daughter of God. Again, I consider myself extremely lucky to have had his council growing up. May God be with you until we meet again.
