A Boy Called it/ David Pelzer

I read this book several years ago. This is a true life story about a boy named David Pelzer who was was so mistreated by his alcoholic mother I wouldn't even call it abuse.

His case was one of the worst cases of Child Abuse in California history. At the hands of his alcoholic unstable mother David was beaten, starved, and "punished" in ways you couldn't even imagine, his punishments or "Games" as his mother called them were jsut unbelievable. He was forced to eat his own vomit, drink ammonia, locked him in a room with a mixture of bleach and ammonia that set off a form of gas and left him so he couldnt' breathe,he ended up coughing up blood for several days after the "Gas Chamber" game. She set him naked on top of a hot stove,  puorposely stabbed in the stomach, and even stripped him of his idenity by calling him "it"

With no one to turn too not even help from his father he learned how to to deal with his mothers tortureous games. On the back of the book it says it so well. it says

"He had to learn to play his mother's games in order to survive because she no longer considered him son but a slave and no longer a boy but an "it"

"David's bed was an old army cot in the basement, his clothes were torn and raunchy, and when he was allowed the "luxury" of food it was nothing more than spoiled scraps that even the dog refused to eat."

This book left me crying until the very end. How could someone hurt their child the way that his mother did. Why since his father knew what was going on didn't do anything to help him?

This book will have you fighting with David for his will to survive, feeling his lonliness and feel his pain. I reccomend this heartwarming story and all I can say is you better have a box of tissues when you read this book.
